Accommodation - Arkadia Hotel, Chania
Weather - sunny and warm
We were at the Piraeus Port early to catch the 9pm overnight ferry to Chania. Luckily, we were upgraded from our booked airline seats to a cabin which was fantastic as I was very tired. The trip was smooth and we landed at Souda Port at 6am. It was then we realised that we had no idea how far we were from the town but I spotted a bus with Chania on the top and we were soon headed to the centre of town for the princely sum of one euro seventy.
After dropping off our luggage at the hotel we were sitting water-side of the beautiful harbour with Sunday church bells ringing out over the town. It was an amazing experience and we welcomed in David’s birthday and Mother’s Day.

The water is crystal clear with the beautiful colours of The Mediterranean. In the background is the lighthouse, built around 1600, where we walked.
Coffee, breakfast and view to die for...the sun slowly lit up the restaurants surrounding the bay.
After breakfast we wandered the wharf area picking up the history of the Venetians who built the harbour and the very famous lighthouse.
The alleys are packed with tiny restaurants and souvenir shops and we enjoyed the time away from the hot sun.
A late lunch celebrating Mother’s Day and David’s birthday was a great way to settle into the afternoon. A local wine, mussels and salmon went down very well.
We have met up with some of our fellow walkers and we are organised to tour the town tomorrow which will give us a far deeper understanding of the history of the area. We are then moving to the hills for an afternoon walk and a change of hotels.
Fingers crossed our fitness will not let us down. The remainder of the group arrive tonight from the UK. David and I are the onlyAussies!
