Hvar
Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort
Sunny and hot
Today we left Dubrovnik on the beautiful coastal road we had travelled before via the Adriatic Sea on our left and at times the blue hued Neretva River.
Once again we had to cross into Bosnia and Herzegovina for a mere twenty or so miles of their coastline so another border control was necessary. This time we were dealt with very speedily and we were on our way to Hvar Island, the longest island in Croatia, on a vehicular ferry.
It was only forty five minutes to the port of Hvar and we stopped for lunch at Stari Grad before making our way to the town of Hvar for a one night stay.
That evening we strolled back into the Old Town and we were spoilt for choice for dining choices. We settled on an old palace and enjoyed squid ink risotto which was delicious and a seafood spaghetti.
Hvar certainly is spectacular ....a very memorable day.

So many picturesque villages to see on the way.
Ploce on the Neretva River
Showing the region we visited with Hvar being the longest island of Croatia.

Lunch at Stari grad....we enjoyed a recommended prosciutto, olive and cheese platter with a wine.
Hvar has a few villages such as this and the island has many olive groves.
Hvar is a town of 4 thousand residents but in 2018 a total of more than eight hundred thousand tourists visited this old town. It is easy to see why as it is accessible by boats, yachts and mega yachts very easily from Split and as a beautiful stop over on the Adriatic Sea. Apparently it is the place to see and to be seen!
Upon our arrival at our hotel we were blown away with the view from the reception balcony. We quickly settled in and David went for a swim in the ocean while I strolled the ten minutes into town with most of our group via a paved path. Turning the corner to see Hvar bathed in the afternoon sunshine is a sight to behold.
The view from the hotel balcony.
So many boats in the harbour.
The very large town square.
Hvar certainly is spectacular ....a very memorable day.
So many inviting restaurants line the alley ways.
Cheers...the end to a lovely day.
